Artwork Photography for Carl Cedegren

In the realm of art, there are those who find inspiration in chaos and the untamed. Meet an artist who thrives in disorder, navigating the wilderness of creativity with a paintbrush. This is the story of a painter who calls himself a “Raw Land Painter.”

In 2010, he embarked on an unconventional artistic journey, painting in a place aptly named “The Swamp.” He believed that immersing himself in such chaos would unveil the knowledge needed to break free from convention. His goal was to separate himself from the herd and find the quirk in his work. However, the path was far from easy, marked by many hard lessons.

Over the years, he honed his skills, mastering the brush and knife. Through the solitude of snow, sun, and rain, he found his artistic voice. His experiences included moments like “killing seven water buffalo at nice water holes” and losing a few paintings along the way – testaments to his unwavering determination.

Carl Cedergren’s style is an intriguing blend, reminiscent of the greats like Alfred Sisley and Pissaro, infused with the teachings of Joe Paquet. It’s a fusion of tradition and innovation, capturing the essence of raw land.

Carl Cedergren’s Path to Painting

Before Carl’s artistic journey, he spent years in advertising, crafting concepts for print, television, and more. From 1986 to 2000, he worked with Fallon McElligott / Fallon Worldwide in Minneapolis, adapting to different industries and needs. This adaptability became his hallmark, something he later applied to his art.

As the digital age emerged around 2000, he sensed a shift coming. It was time to embrace his true calling – painting, much like the changes he observed as a child when the chain saw replaced Paul Bunyan and Babe, proving that even a fraction of an inch can make all the difference.

Carl Cedergren: Embracing the Raw Land Through Art

For Carl, the light and synergy of a place are paramount. He continues to explore, create, and capture the raw essence of the land through his brush strokes, proving that the journey into the heart of art is as wild and untamed as the raw land itself.
