Louise Gillis Artist Statement

A classically trained painter of all mediums, I have achieved recognition and respect as an artist for over twenty-five years.   My knowledge of impressionistic color theory  sets the stage for portraiture, still life, interiors, landscapes, and murals.  This versatility allows me to focus on the needs of my subject matter and create the vibrancy and depth of each individual painting.  I have taught workshops in Maui and the Apostle Islands and spent time as an artist in residence in Paris, and the Black Hills.  My art has been featured in North Light Books “Best of Flower Painting” and has also been published in Minnesota Monthly, Human Rights Campaign, Minnesota Watercolor Society, Minnesota Horticulture Magazine, and different book covers.  A full time artist, I make my home in the Twin Cities of Minnesota.  I take great pride in the craftsmanship of my work and believe that all great art is a reflection of the individual’s interpretation of the beauty of nature.
