Andrew Sjodin: Minneapolis Fine Art Painter

Andrew Sjodin is a Minneapolis-based fine art painter known for his somber and contemplative works. With a foundation in French Academic drawing and an impressionistic approach to color, Andrew’s paintings offer viewers a chance to slow down, reflect, and find solace within the artwork.

Born in 1981 in Pipestone, MN, Andrew’s artistic journey led him from teaching English in Thailand to discovering his passion for painting in the picturesque landscapes of Homer, Alaska. It was there that a painting course with Asia Freeman ignited his desire to pursue art more seriously.

In 2010, Andrew began his formal training at The Atelier Studio Program of Fine Arts in Minneapolis, MN, studying under instructors Dale Redpath and Cyd Wicker. Guided by the techniques of the old masters, Andrew developed a unique style that combines technical skill with an introspective approach to composition.

Andrew’s works primarily focus on still lifes and figures, primarily created with oils. His compositions are intentionally simple and mindful, encouraging viewers to slow down and engage with the work on a deeper level. Through his paintings, Andrew aims to create an experience that is introspective, subtle, complex, and ultimately fulfilling for both himself and the viewer.

His talent has been recognized through various exhibitions, including The Salmagundi Club in New York, NY, where he received the prestigious Audubon Artists, Inc. Award. Andrew’s commitment to sharing his knowledge and passion led him to become a Full-Time Program Instructor at The Atelier Studio Program of Fine Arts in 2018.

Andrew Sjodin’s artistic journey has shaped him into a skilled painter who combines technical mastery with a contemplative approach. With his introspective and captivating works, Andrew continues to leave a lasting impression on viewers, inspiring them to slow down and dwell within the rich experiences he creates.
