Kevin Komadina — Paintings Photographed by Mitch Rossow
Kevin Komadina is a Minneapolis-area painter whose oils draw on thirty years of work in ceramic sculpture, murals, and pottery. His subject matter gravitates toward mid-century American life — neon signs, roadside motels, diners, city lights at night — rendered with a color energy and sense of movement that comes directly out of that sculptural background. “The beauty of the ordinary” is how he describes it, and it shows in the work.
He is represented by Steidel Contemporary of West Palm Beach, FL, through whom his work has shown at the LA Art Show, CONTEXT Art Miami during Miami Art Week, The Other Art Fair Chicago, Affordable Art Fair Austin, Affordable Art Fair New York, and the Hamptons Fine Art Fair — a circuit of major international fairs that puts his paintings in front of serious collectors across the country.
His painting “More Shops” was selected for the Minnesota State Fair Fine Arts Exhibition — one of the most competitive juried shows in the region. He also shows locally from Studio 139 at the Northrup King Building in Minneapolis.
When Kevin’s “Endless Summer” went to CONTEXT Art Miami, he credited the archival photograph — shot here — by name on Instagram. For gallery submissions and art fair catalogues, the image file is what sells the painting before anyone sees it in person. Artists submitting to the Minnesota State Fair Fine Arts Exhibition take note: this studio knows the submission specs. Tell me it’s a State Fair piece and I’ll deliver the right file format.
