James Vose’s paintings consistently perform exceptionally well in competitions—and it’s easy to see why. His work is delightfully precise and whimsical. James brought this piece to me while it was still in progress so I could test how the plaster teeth would photograph. He was concerned that the nearly white tones might blow out, but I was able to preserve their detail and fidelity. The finished painting went on to win multiple awards.

So how did this piece do? Pandora’s Box (Temptations and Warnings) was awarded Best Still Life in the National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society 2025 Associate Member Exhibition. It was also selected as a finalist and received the Rosemary & Company Award in the American Artists Professional League 97th Grand National Exposition, and was exhibited at the Salmagundi Club in New York City from November 18 to December 5, 2025.

Artwork Photography for James Vose
James Vose concentrates his efforts on still life, in oil and in graphite. His work depicts a broad range of objects, from fruit and vegetables to children’s toys, mechanical and musical instruments, and flowers. As a rule, he does not depict objects of a sort that could have existed only after the invention of plastic.
His paintings have been selected as finalists in the 14th (2019) and 15th (2021) International Salons conducted by the Art Renewal Center. His painting called The Weight of Words was awarded third place in still life in the 38th Annual Competition (2021) of the Artists Magazine.
