Cheryl LeClair-Sommer
Oil and Pastel Artist
Cheryl LeClair Sommer is an artist who specializes in oils and soft pastels. She has received extensive education through workshops and private studies with nationally recognized artists, such as Albert Handel, Jim Robinson, and Joseph Paquet. Cheryl continues to refine her skills by attending a drawing cooperative.
Cheryl’s hard work has paid off with regular recognition of her artwork in national exhibits, awards from outdoor painting competitions, a Master Circle award from IAPS, and a feature on “MN Original” in 2011. Her goals for the future include mastering oil painting, creating larger studio pieces, teaching classes, exhibiting nationally, participating in outdoor painting competitions, and refining her craft.
Currently residing in a St. Paul suburb, Cheryl also enjoys painting landscapes in western Minnesota, the Upper Peninsula, and the Tahoe area. Her home studio provides a space for creating still life and figurative work during inclement weather. She is an active member of several art organizations, including Oil Painters of America, Outdoor Painters of Minnesota, and the Lake Country Pastel Society, of which she was previously President. Cheryl recently purchased a farmhouse and renovated a shed studio with plans to teach, exhibit, and host workshops.
