Victoria Helen: An Accidental Painter
Victoria Helen embarked on her artistic journey through a series of life experiences and self-discovery. An observer by nature, Victoria spent the first half of her life exploring various professions, each feeling either too tight, too loose, or too hectic. When she found floral design, it resonated with her through its vibrant and subtle colors, providing a creative outlet that fit for many years. Eventually, she sought a new challenge and a fresh start.
Victoria Helen’s love for animals and nature inspired her to begin drawing. She bought tiny canvases and paints from a craft store and started painting in her living room. After moving across the country, she discovered a community of highly skilled artists who motivated her to pursue painting more seriously. Learning from figure modeling at a renowned studio/gallery, she absorbed the instructor’s wisdom and the students’ enthusiasm. Despite her shyness and limited funds, she began painting octopuses, using their tentacles to master direction, perspective, shading, and highlights.
Her journey led her to organize art shows with bands, but something felt amiss, prompting Victoria to return to her home state and family. Another fresh start led her to further explore her artistic identity. She painted chickens, owls, foxes, and more, gradually receiving commissions and involving herself in charity work through her art. Her muses have since expanded to pigs and pigeons, embodying her whimsical and slightly eerie style.
Today Victoria Helen creates living cartoons that capture moments of joy with a touch of reality. Her work, influenced by the creatures we love and encounter daily, continues to grow, bringing humor and whimsy to life on canvas.
