Adam Turner — Paintings Photographed by Mitch Rossow
Adam Turner is a Minnesota-based oil painter working in what he calls mosaic-impressionism — jewel-toned, layered brushwork built from dark to light, with pops of purple and blue pulled into the shadows. He moves across wildlife (birds especially), landscape, and figurative work, though figurative is where he says his real strength lives. Every canvas is built around a story — a single charged moment lifted from something larger, as if caught mid-motion.
Adam spent over three decades in commercial illustration and design — working up from graphic designer to creative director — before making the full leap to oil painting in 2023. It was a considered risk: he’d been drawing since he could hold a pencil, and the move to traditional media let him tell his own stories instead of a client’s. He now paints full time out of a New Brighton studio under the name Adam Turner Visuals, sells originals and prints directly, and shows across the Twin Cities art fair circuit and beyond. He’s also a competitive, award-winning snow sculptor — same themes of figures and animals in motion, colder medium.
